Reading Month

March is Reading Month and local elementary schools find many ways to celebrate and encourage students to develop a love of reading.  Players de Noc in Escanaba was part of these efforts this past week.  The local community theater group created a book-brought-to-life skit to share with hundreds of local students.  The book, Sam’s Sandwich by David Pellum, was presented by Dawn Martin (narrator), Mariah Lee (Samantha), Brian Tourangeau (played Sam on Tuesday), and  Mark Ammel (played Sam on Thursday).  They performed during Family Reading Night at the Upper Elementary School on Tuesday and visited Bark River, Nah-Tah-Wahsh, Powers, Webster, and Lemmer schools on Thursday.   Students shrieked and groaned as “Sam” tried to add all kinds of slimy tidbits to his sister’s sandwich without her knowing.  What a fun way to celebrate books!
